LENGTH: Less Than One Year

Purpose:

This certificate program is designed to prepare individuals for employment in environments where the care and education of young children is the primary focus. Program content aligns with Virginia’s Core Competencies for Early Childhood Professionals, Virginia’s Early Learning and Development Standards as well as the National Association for the Education of Young Children’s Professional Preparation Standards. This program is G3 Eligible.

Occupational Objectives
Employment opportunities include intermediate level positions in early childhood education programs including Head Start and Early Head Start, family childcare homes, private childcare centers and public preschool programs. This credential also qualifies individuals for program director positions according to Virginia Child Care Licensing Standards.

Credit for Prior Learning

Admissions Requirements:

Students are required to meet the general admission requirements of the College. Entry to the Early Childhood Development Certificate Program requires proficiency in high school English. Students with an English deficiency must successfully complete the appropriate developmental English course(s)

Program Requirements:

All students expected to complete the requirements for a degree, diploma, certificate, or career studies certificate must complete an Application for Graduation.
