Purpose:
To prepare graduates with demonstrated competence in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains of respiratory care practice as performed by registered respiratory therapists (RRTs). This program is G3 Eligible.
Admissions Requirements:
Admission is competitive and based on grades, performance on the College’s placement tests, interviews, and demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in an allied health care field. Students should schedule an appointment with a Counselor to discuss general admission to the college and to the respiratory therapy program. Students should complete the Allied Health application process by April 15, prior to the fall semester of desired admission. Late applicants will be considered if there are available positions in the program. Applicants must successfully complete a background check prior to final admission into the program.

Program Requirements:
Students will complete clinicals each semester in the program at Centra facilities, the University of Virginia, and Carillion.
All students expected to complete the requirements for a degree, diploma, certificate, or career studies certificate must complete an Application for Graduation. Students must graduate with an AAS degree from a CoARC-accredited program (such as The Respiratory Therapy AAS program at CVCC) to take the National NBRC TMC Exam. The AAS degree is not contingent upon the student passing any type of external exam.
