LENGTH: 2 Years

Purpose:

An Associates of Arts and Sciences in Science - Physical Science Specialization prepares the student to transfer to a four-year college or university to major in the sciences. It provides the student with the course work and skills needed to pursue further study in chemistry, physics, geology, environmental science, and more.

Admissions Requirements:

Individuals are eligible for admission to CVCC if they are high school graduates or the equivalent, or if they are eighteen years of age or older and able to benefit academically from study at the community college, as demonstrated by assessment in reading, writing, and mathematics.

Program Requirements:

All students expected to complete the requirements for a degree, diploma, certificate, or career studies certificate must complete an Application for Graduation.

Courses:

The Program Pathway for Science AA&S is a resource for students that lists the following items:

  • The recommended order in which to take the program courses
  • Suggested course when more than one option exists
  • If the course has a prerequisite
  • Courses that may lead to a certificate (if offered in the program)

Students who plan to transfer should consult an academic counselor to verify specific program requirements with their intended four-year institution. While an elective course may satisfy a requirement for a Central Virginia Community College program, it may not fulfill a requirement at a four-year institution.

2 MTH 167  may be replaced with MTH 161  and MTH 162 , but doing so will require MTH 263  to be taken during a summer session or students may not complete the program within 2 years.

3 Students may not complete a HIS course to fulfill this requirement
4 Students must complete 3 credits from one of the three areas but may not be from the same area as course #5. Students who choose a Literature elective must have completed ENG 112 prior to enrollment.
5 Students who take the Organic Chemistry I (CHM 241  & CHM 245 ) alone or followed by Organic Chemistry II CHM 242  & CHM 246   as their electives will finish their program with more than 61 credits.
