BASIC COMPUTER SKILLS TRAINING FOR BEGINNERS

This 4-session class is designed to expose participants to the basics of using a computer involving turning on/booting up, keyboard/mouse/pointer controls, desktop, control panels/settings, keyboard cursor, icons, menus, windows, files/folders, introduction the internet/search engines, and setting up/sending/receiving emails.

BASIC LIFE SUPPORT (BLS) FOR HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS 

The American Heart Association’s Basic Life Support (BLS) course trains participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations, and provide early use of an AED. The AHA’s BLS Course is designed for healthcare professionals and other personnel who need to know how to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills in a wide variety of in-facility and prehospital settings.

TERRARIUM MAKING WORKSHOP

In this workshop you will learn about the different types of terrariums, what plants thrive in them, and how to create and maintain an “open” terrarium. This workshop is hands-on, allowing students to learn about the process while continuing to care for the terrarium at home.  Working with live plants, mosses, rocks, and tiny figurines are all part of making your terrarium a statement piece of your personal style. This is a fun class for all ages, so bring your friends and family!

HALLOWEEN BOO-QUET MAKING WORKSHOP

Join us for a fun night of learning basic floral design skills, while getting to create your very own Halloween Boo-quet. We will be designing a fall/Halloween themed arrangement with live flowers in floral foam. You will learn how to properly process store bought flowers, how to maintain vase and foam arrangements for longer flower life and the basic techniques used in floral design. These techniques include balance, proportion, color, and harmony, as well as becoming familiar with the material and tools used in the trade.

LIVE WREATH AND BOW MAKING WORKSHOP

In this workshop you will learn various types of evergreen trees/shrubs used for holiday décor, varieties you could plant at home and cut from year to year, how to take proper cuttings from a tree and use them to construct a live wreath, and how to tie and attach a 6 loop bow to your wreath. This workshop is hands-on, allowing students to learn about the process while constructing their own wreath and bow to take home and display. Get in the holiday spirit by bringing a friend, having some fun, being creative and stepping up your winter decorating game!

This two-part advanced Excel class is designed for participants to advance skills necessary to perform advanced data analysis, collaborate on workbooks with other users, and automate workbook functionality. Participants will work with multiple worksheets and workbooks, use Lookup functions and formula auditing, share and protect workbooks, automate workbook functionality, create sparklines and map data, and forecast data.

BASIC MOTORCYCLE 2-WHEEL WEEKEND CLASS

The Basic Rider Course (BRC) is a complete entry-level, learn-to-ride class. This 15-hour class consists of classroom and on-motorcycle instruction. Riders will learn basic skills of motorcycle operation and safe riding strategies under controlled range condition. The BRC program provides motorcycles (none larger than 500 cc), helmets and textbook for each rider. In the classroom, students will learn about different types of motorcycles, layout and operation of the basic controls, and street strategies to avoid trouble and stay safe. This course is physically demanding, and students should be in good physical condition. Upon successful completion of the course, students are provided a Virginia license waiver to be taken to the Division of Motor Vehicles for endorsement purposes.

BASIC MOTORCYCLE RIDER COURSE 2

The BRC2 class if for the rider who wants to refresh and practice street riding maneuvers. Many Basic Rider graduates take the BRC2 as a fun way to get additional practice on their personal motorcycle. Individuals enrolling must have a valid Class M on their license and provide proof of insurance. Students must also have sturdy shoes high enough to cover the ankle, full fingered gloves, long pants without holes in the legs, eye protection, and a minimum 3/4” shell, DOT-approved helmet. No skull or half helmets permitted. Students under 18 years of age must have parent signature on waiver forms. All requirements must be met, or you will not be permitted to ride. This class is NOT FOR BEGINNING RIDERS.

MOTORCYCLE 3-WHEEL (CAN-AM)

Students must register with Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP) can-am.brp.com/spyder/learntoride.html and make payment for this course. 
CVCC in partnership with Bombardier Recreational Products, (BRP) manufacturers of Can-am vehicles, offers a 3-wheel class designed to teach riders the skills necessary to safely operate a three-wheelvehicle on the street, even if one has never ridden any kind of motorcycle. A can-am on-road model will be provided for the duration of the course. 

Program Requirements:

• Valid driver’s license or learner’s permit

• Sturdy shoes high enough to cover the ankle

• Full fingered gloves

• Long pants without holes in the legs (denim jeans are suggested)

• Eye protection (sunglasses or eyeglasses are suitable for range conditions)

• At minimum a 3/4” shell, DOT-approved helmet must be used while on the motorcycle range (no skull or half helmets permitted)

OSHA 10-HOUR INDUSTRY SAFETY


This 10-hour instructor led course is intended to provide entry level general industry workers information about their rights, employer responsibilities, and how to file a complaint as well as how to identify, abate, avoid, and prevent occupational hazards on job locations. The training covers a variety of general industry safety and health hazards which a worker may encounter at an industrial work location.
Course material will include group discussions, video information, (9) practice quizzes for each learning module, and a post-exam. This course will emphasize methods for hazard identification, avoidance, control, and prevention. These methods are not purely driven by OSHA standard compliance, but from a practical point of view, using the concepts of hierarchy of control and effective safety management.
