Purpose:

The Career Studies Certificate in Pre-Allied Health is designed to help prepare students for admission into allied health programs at CVCC and nursing programs at partner institutions, and programs offered at CVCC including Emergency Medical Services, Medical Laboratory Technology, Radiologic Technology, and Respiratory Therapy. Students enrolled in this CSC are not yet accepted into the Certificate or Degree programs listed but are completing their general education and prerequisite courses. While completing this CSC, students may submit an application into one of the allied health programs based on their interests. The allied health educational and career pathway provides a broad foundation of core skills, knowledge, and abilities for admission into allied health associate degree programs or employment as entry-level health care workers.

Admissions Requirements:

Individuals are eligible for admission to CVCC if they are high school graduates or the equivalent, or if they are eighteen years of age or older and able to benefit academically from study at the community college, as demonstrated by assessment in reading, writing, and mathematics.

Program Requirements:

The Pre-Allied Health CSC consists of 18-20 credits and serves as a guide for preparing the student to enter an allied health program. Students must check the catalog for specific program admission requirements in addition to the courses listed above.

Completion of this certificate alone does not guarantee admission into a specific program.

The Program Pathway for Pre-Allied Health CSC is a resource for students that lists the following items:

  • The recommended order in which to take the program courses
  • Suggested course when more than one option exists
  • If the course has a prerequisite
  • Courses that may lead to a certificate (if offered in the program)

1 Emergency Medical Services AAS is not a competitive admission program and student may enroll directly into the AAS degree.
2 SDV 100  may be substituted for SDV 101.
3 Taking both BIO 141  and BIO 142  are an approved substitute to BIO 145 .
