CVCC Workforce Solutions offers a series of instructor-led CompTIA Training in which students can begin a career pathway that tests different knowledge standards-from entry level to expert, earning stackable credentials along the way to include:

HEALTHCARE AND PUBLIC SAFETY CAREER PATHWAYS


FASTFORWARD HYBRID CERTIFIED CLINICAL MEDICAL ASSISTANT (CCMA) PROGRAM

The Clinical Medical Assistant program is designed to prepare students to be professional Medical Assistants, as multi-skilled allied healthcare professionals that specialize in procedures commonly performed in the ambulatory healthcare setting. This class is 108 hours of classroom instruction and covers theory and in-class practice and an online portion. Students may work in medical offices, clinics, urgent care centers, and may work in general medicine or specialty practices. Students will be exposed to medical and administrative tasks. Students must score 70% or more on the classroom portion of the program to be eligible to sit for the NHA (National HealthCareer Association) exam.

FASTFORWARD HYBRID PHLEBOTOMY TECHNICIAN PROGRAM

The Phlebotomy Technician Program is designed to prepare students to be professional Phlebotomy Technicians dedicated to safely collecting venous and dermal blood specimens for laboratory testing. This class is 36 hours of classroom instruction and 40 hours of clinical training at a local medical center. Students must score 70% or more on the classroom portion of the program to be eligible to participate in clinical rotations and sit for the NHA (National Healthcareer Association) exam. Clinical rotations are scheduled by the CVCC clinical coordinator and students must be available to start clinicals immediately after classroom instruction is completed. During the two week clinical period, students are required to perform 30 successful, unaided venipuncture and 10 capillary or finger sticks. After successful classroom and clinical hours students will sit for the National HealthCareer Association exam (NHA) in Phlebotomy.

FASTFORWARD HYBRID NURSE AIDE EDUCATION PROGRAM

Centra College and Central Virginia Community College collaboratively offer a 6-week Nurse Aide Education Program at the Main Campus site in Lynchburg, Virginia, and branch location at Bedford Memorial Hospital (BMH). Clinical experiences are provided at Centra in both acute care and long-term care facilities. Completion of the program qualifies a student to take the national Nurse Aide Assessment Program (NNAAP) Examination by Credentia. Successful completion of this examination leads to licensure as a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA). Licensure is required for employment as a certified nurse aide. The Nurse Aide Education Program is approved by the Virginia Board of Nursing. Nurse Aide Education Program participants will obtain licensure as a Certified Nurse Aide through completion of the NNAAP exam, will work within the scope of practices for a Nurse Aide in the state of Virginia within hospitals, long term care, facilities, or home settings, and will be able to accurately report changes in condition and responses to care plans to staff.

FASTFORWARD HYBRID EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN PROGRAM (EMT)

The course is designed to produce competent entrylevel EMT’s who can service the community with basic life support care via the EMS infrastructure. Students learn to assess injuries and illnesses and administer basic emergency medical care. Students learn best practices in transporting injured or sick persons to medical facilities. Basic Life Support (BLS) training is included in the course. This class will be a mix of classroom hours and online work. Employment opportunities are available for Ambulance, Fire and Rescue services, Hospitals, Government Departments, Industrial, and Humanitarian relief organizations. Students will demonstrate the skills necessary to achieve the State and National Registry EMT certification.

The primary focus of the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) course is to provide basic and limited advanced emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. The individual processes the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation. AEMT’s function as part of comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight. AEMT’s perform interventions with the basic and advanced equipment typically found in an ambulance.

This course is the first in the series of four Electrical classes. Students must be certified in NCCER Core or be co-enrolled in the NCCER Core class. Electricians install electrical systems in structures: they install wiring and other electrical components, such as circuit breaker panels, switches, and light fixtures, and they follow blueprints, the National Electrical Code® and state and local codes. The Electrical Level 1 course has twelve modules: the electrical industry, safety for electricians, introduction to electrical circuits, electrical theory, introduction to the National Electrical Code device boxes, hand bending, wireways, raceways and fittings, conductors and cables, basic electrical construction documents, residential wiring, and electrical test equipment. **Students should have basic computer skills, basic math skills and be able to use a calculator to complete NCCER module testing and completion of homework assignments in CANVAS.**

HVAC CAREER PATHWAYS FASTFORWARD HYBRID NCCER HVAC TECHNOLOGY LEVEL 1

This course is the first in the series of four HVAC classes. Students must be certified in NCCER Core or be co-enrolled in the NCCER Core class. The increasing development of HVAC (heating and air-conditioning systems) technology causes employees to recognize the importance of continuous education and keeping up to speed with the latest equipment and skills. NCCER’s programs have been designed by highly qualified subject matter experts with this in mind. The four level, North American Technician Excellence (NATE) recognized, presents theoretical and practical skills essential to your success as an HVAC installer or technician. HEAVY EQUIPMENT CAREER PATHWAYS

FASTFORWARD HYBRID NCCER HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR LEVEL 1

Become a heavy equipment operator and earn an NCCER industry-recognized credential! The Heavy Equipment Operator program has been developed to meet the growing employment demands for equipment operators. This Heavy Equipment Operator (HEO) Level 1 Course serves as the first level of training in the Heavy Equipment Operator program. Students will learn the following content: orientation to the trade, heavy equipment safety, identification of heavy equipment, basic operational techniques, utility tractors, introduction to earthmoving, interpreting civil drawings, and using simulator exercises for equipment basic controls, loading and unloading, excavating, and trenching. Students receive hands-on training using simulators, which replicate real-life operating scenarios through rotation-motion platforms and high-resolution 3D displays for excavator and wheel loader equipment. Upon successful completion of the course, students are eligible to sit for the Heavy Equipment Operator - Level 1 credential exam offered by the National Center for Construction Education & Research (NCCER).

Prerequisite: Successful completion of NCCER Core or students must be co-enrolled.

FASTFORWARD HYBRID NCCER HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR LEVEL 2

This class serves as the second level of training in the Heavy Equipment Operator program and allows students to expand their knowledge and skill with advanced HEO training. Topics include Introduction to the heavy highway trade, trucks, heavy equipment, cranes, and forklifts, belowgrade construction, earthmoving, plant operations, paving, structures, interpreting civil drawings, excavation math, site work and soils, skid steers, loaders, and scrapers. Students will learn proper skills with simulators. Upon successful completion of this course, students are eligible to sit for the Heavy Equipment Operator - Level 2 credential exam offered by the National Center for Construction Education & Research (NCCER).

TRUCK DRIVING CAREER PATHWAYS


FASTFORWARD COMMERCIAL TRUCK DRIVING (CLASS A)

CVCC Workforce Solutions offers Entry Level Driver Training to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License. Training is tailored to meet the new FMCSA regulation requiring all entrylevel CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) drivers, or existing Class B drivers looking to upgrade to a Class A, complete a specific program by a school on the Training Provider Registry. Students will participate in classroom, range, and On-The-Road Training. Classroom training will cover topics such as basic control, safe operating procedures, distracted driving, hazard perception, vehicle systems and much more. Range training consists of pre-trip inspection, straight line backing, off-set backing, and parallel parking, all of which are required to pass the DMV skills test. On- The-Road training covers speed and space management, and many other control topics. Our program uses automatic transmission trucks. Upon satisfactory completion of the required curriculum and a demonstration of the skill set needed to pass the DMV exam, the DMV skills test will be scheduled. Once students pass the skills test and their CDL is issued, they will receive a Certificate of Completion from ANCORA. During training, multiple recruiters will hold recruiting sessions to discuss career opportunities. CERTIFICATION: Upon successful completion of this program, students test at a DMV testing facility to obtain their state CDL license issued by the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles. The CDL program will schedule the skills exam and provide the vehicle.

TRADESMAN PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT TRADESMAN UPDATE

The Virginia Board of Contractors requires journeymen, expert plumbers, electricians, HVAC mechanics, and gas fitters to take continuing education hours specific to their trade as part of the licensing process. Those renewing a license must take continuing education in their respective profession. Plumbers, HVAC technicians and electricians must take three hours of continuing education in their field. Gas Fitters must take one hour; this one-hour training course for gas fitters is intended for journeyman and expert gas fitters, liquefied petroleum gas fitters and natural gas fitters. This course covers new definitions, code changes, general requirements, impacts on the job, widespread use and special equipment included in the respective codes.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT SURVIVAL TRAINING

This 15-hour class consists of five hours of online instruction and two days on-motorcycle instruction. Students must complete an online portion before class starts to participate in the on-motorcycle instruction. The Motorcycle Coordinator will email a link to each student approximately two weeks before the class start date. Once the online portion of the program is completed, the student is responsible to bring the certificate of completion to the instructor on the first day of class. If you do not have the certificate, you will be dropped from the program without a refund. Motorcycles (none larger than 500 cc) and helmets are provided for this program. If you choose to bring your own helmet it must be at minimum, a ¾ shell, DOT approved helmet. No skull or half helmets permitted.

MOTORCYCLE 3- WHEEL (CAN-AM)

Students must register with Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP) Learn to ride a 3-wheel motorcycle - Can-Am On-Road (brp.com) to make payment for this course. CVCC in partnership with Bombardier Recreational Products, (BRP) manufacturers of Can-am vehicles, offers a 3-wheel class designed to teach riders the skills necessary to safely operate a three-wheel vehicle on the street, even if one has never ridden any kind of motorcycle. A Can-Am On-Road model will be provided for the course.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:

• Valid driver’s license or learner’s permit

• Sturdy shoes high enough to cover the ankle

• Full fingered gloves

• Long pants without holes in the legs (denim jeans are suggested)

• Eye protection (sunglasses or eyeglasses are suitable for range conditions)

• At minimum, a 3/4” shell, DOT-approved helmet must be used while on the motorcycle range. CVCC has a limited supply of helmets for student use. No skull or half helmets are permitted.

• Students under 18 years of age must have parent signature on waiver forms. Students WILL NOT be permitted to ride if they do not meet ALL program requirements.

THE HILL

The Hill is CVCC’s new Art revival paying homage to the Seven Hills. Due to a generous donation, CVCC will offer a variety of creative activities involving Visual Arts, Literature, Music, and Dance. CVCC will collaborate with artisans and organizations to update offerings quarterly. Classes and workshops are nonaccredited. Scholarships are subject to change based on funding availability. All students under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult or guardian.

This course provides hands-on learning and face-to-face instruction by an experienced candle maker and designer. Explore your creativity while choosing your pre-made colored scents, and candle shapes. This course will also allow you to make your own colored and scented beads (Freshies). These are used in small areas to create a fresh aroma.
